WHO WE ARE
The mission of the West Indian American Association of Greater Bridgeport (WIAAGB) is to promote and support academic accomplishment and excellence through our scholarship and mentoring programs; to empower our youths and equip them with the necessary tools to be successful and reach the pinnacle of success in the community and society.
The West Indian American Association of Greater Bridgeport (WIAAGB) is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It serves as a beacon of hope for West Indian-Americans in the area. We are a community oriented, social organization devoted to expand opportunities for all people and provide leadership in maintaining and fostering Caribbean culture and education. We take active interest in educational, cultural and social activities that benefit the local community and the Caribbean.
WIAAGB wears the mantel as “ambassador" in the Caribbean community. We fulfill our mission through our compassionate and dedicated members and a very small operating budget. We have no paid staff, funding is by dues paid by members and the modest proceeds from three events per year that we offer. We are all volunteers and a hundred percent of our financial resources go directly to fund our programs.
